Hi Andy,

My apologies for the break in comms on this topic, I've been having a think about other venues that could work but ended up back at the Puffing Billy for now:))  So, I'm proposing that we meet at the PB on the last Saturday of the month at 2pm?  This should avoid the busy brunch/lunch period with the kitchen closing at 3pm during autumn/winter season.

I'll be at the Puffing Billy from 2pm on Saturday.  For those who can make it shall we gather on the decked area with the large green parasols?  I'll be wearing a blue IoS cap.

Great to meet up with Neil, Mike, Sam and Nicholas yesterday at the Puffing Billy for a very pleasant social gathering and a good opportunity to share ideas and learn new stuff.  A diverse range of topics came to the fore including AI assisted birdsong identification, DIY seismology, cheap yellow displays, (CYDs), vintage computers and mesh communications!  I think being seated outside worked well avoiding the noise and clatter of service inside, but I will continue to consider other options for the "Saturday Social" as we head towards winter.  All suggestions most welcome!

In the meantime the next Saturday Social will be at the Puffing Billy on Sat 31 Oct @ 2:00pm.

Thanks Chris for organising this meet. It was great to have such a wide ranging discussion about our various interests and put some names to faces.

BirdNET running on a Pi was one subject that came up, which caused me to have a look at the one I have here. The screen capture shows the detections just this morning so far.

I think it's reasonably accurate - I'm a bit dubious about one or two of the detected species, but the majority are regular visitors to the garden, bribed by bird feeders.

This is a Pi4 with a USB lavalier microphone hanging out of my garage window, a few meters from the feeder.
